Almost a year after the Search giant started the Files Go application, Google renamed its file management application into Google Files. The conversion of the Files Go application reflects an extended database of software users, which now estimates that more than 30 million active users are on a monthly basis. The app is not only used by Android Go smartphone owners in developing countries, but also by people who have their own stronger smartphones and can connect to faster mobile data connections. Google notes that the Files Go application is an example of how the app has evolved to reach users of the following millions who mainly include consumers who own limited-storage devices and live in areas with slower Internet connections can turn out to be also for other users.
The rebuilding of the app monitors the conversion of the application's user interface, which now tracks the new Material Design theme that is visible in other applications developed by Google. Although the search giant did not change the important application features, the redesigned application now directs the user's attention to the content stored on the device. In addition, the application also informs users how much space in the internal memory has been restored on the smartphone after deleting unused applications and files.
Background: Google originally developed the Files from Google app, helping consumers in developing countries solve file and storage management problems, and this program is pre-installed on smartphones that use Android Go. This application has enabled users to easily remove unwanted and cached files, quickly browse through the device's internal memory, and transfer files and applications between smartphones at high speeds without relying on a mobile data connection. These features are included in an application that takes up less than 10 MB of internal memory of the smartphone.
Since it was published last year, Google has constantly added new features to the app. In January, the technology company improved support for the SD card application and its tablet compatibility. These additional features make it easier to transfer files between master and secondary memory, and between tablets and other devices. Later, Google introduced the ability to search for files, synchronize images with Google Photos, extract the contents of ZIP files, and play media content directly in the application. The technical company also enhanced the in-app application sharing function by providing file transfer using the WPA2 encryption protocol and by increasing the maximum data transfer speed from 125Mbps to more than 500Mbps. Google files also have the features of advanced installation apps that scan an application that they receive from another user to ensure it is on the Google Play store.
In addition to Google's files, the search giant has also developed other apps that provide the next billion users. These applications include Datally, an application that helps users track their use of mobile data and the Tez, a mobile payment solution that has been developed specifically for India. However, Google later transformed Thesis into Google Pay in August.
Impact: Google files is an example of a useful application that was used for a user base that is much wider than the original target market. The change of name does not only reflect this observation, but could also indicate the purpose of the company to market the app to a wider audience by dividing the application from the trademark for smartphones with limited access to memory.
