Most Germans trust Meretz to succeed in Merkel

The majority of Germans expressed in a vote their confidence in the candidate's ability to serve as Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Friedrich Mertz Christian Democratic Party, to improve the party's results in the elections.
The vote on Saturday showed that 49 percent of Germans are confident that Meretz would do this before the head of the former parliamentary bloc, while another 19 percent expressed confidence in the party's secretary-general Anjrit Kramp-Cranbauer, 6 percent by the German health minister Yens Schappen, who also nominated for the party's leadership.
By contrast, 22 percent of Germans said they did not trust any of the three candidates to improve the party's results in the elections.
At the level of Christian alliance fans, 63% said they trusted Meretz's ability to improve the Party's achievements, compared to 21% of Party Secretary-General and 5% of Health Minister.
Merkel announced on Monday after having caused a great loss to his party in the parliamentary elections in Hessen, with the intention not to resume the party's presidency in December. Merkel announced his intention not to run again.
Merkel will continue to serve as chancellor in Germany until the end of the 2021 legislature.
The survey was commissioned by the Sivi Institute of Measurement Opinion Indicators on behalf of the German newspaper Welt.
