The history of Romtelecom as a national fixed-line monopoly phone continues to be prosecuted by Telekom Romania, controlled by the Germans from Deutsche Telekom, by the Greek company Cosmote. In the fourth quarter, the operator, which still has a steady share in the yellow country, reported a 5.3% decrease in revenues in the third quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, to EUR 227 million with EBITDA (before interest, taxes, depreciation) decreased by 4.2% to EUR 41 million.

Romania's turnover in the first nine months of the year fell 2.1 percent to 691 million euros, while EBITDA fell 5.8 percent to 112 million euros.

The reductions were caused by lower revenues from fixed business, while revenues from mobile communications and business services were developed positively, according to the company.

In the third quarter, revenues from mobile communications increased by 6.1% compared to the same quarter last year, to EUR 117.9 million, largely due to higher revenue from converged services with fixed mobility and data segment growth mobile, supported with an unlimited number of mobile networks, according to Telekom.

The number of mobile service customers has increased by about 44,000 since the beginning of this year, reaching 5,302 million at the end of September. On the fixed network, the number of subscribers decreased by 93,000 to 1,772 million. The company also recorded a slightly negative trend in broadband internet services, where the customer base fell to 1,108 million euros, compared with 1,134 million at the end of last year.

In the third quarter, the number of customers with integrated fixed telephony services increased by 44% compared to the same period last year, while at the end of September 2018 it was 655,547, revenue from which increased by 30.7%, Telekom Romania.

The volume of TV services slightly decreased, 1.4% to 1.45 million, with a corresponding decline of 7.8% from one year to the next. On the other hand, the number of Internet TV customers (IPTV) increased by 16%.

The Telekom Romania Group is made up of Telekom Romania Communications (formerly Romtelecom), where it is still 46% owned by the Romanian state and Telekom Romania Mobile Communications (formerly Cosmote Romania).

Telekom Romania Mobile had 4.6 million customers at the end of September, which is 2.7% more than the removal of inactive SIM cards. Of the total number of customers, 36% of subscriptions and the remaining prepaid cards.

In the business segment, they increased by 8.8% in the third quarter, Telekom added.
