Tests and consumables necessary for the test were distributed free of charge to family doctors, together with information materials on the transmission of hepatitis C virus and the risks of non-diagnosis and timely treatment of infected persons.
"With our approach, we want to give the chance to heal and take advantage of the treatment available today in Romania for infected people with hepatitis C who, after testing, find out that they are suffering from this condition. According to experts, the rate of treatment with these treatments is longer as 95%, and patients can avoid serious complications that may occur if they are not treated in good time ", said the president of the Association for Health, Maria Vasilescu, during the opening ceremony of the campaign that took place in Bacau.
Since three years ago, the Romanian healthcare system has offered innovative therapies for hepatitis C treatment. At present, three treatment schemes are available under the cost and volume contracts concluded by CNAS. In one year from 1 September 2018, treatment with therapies is treated with 13,000 patients with F1, F2, F3, F4, F4, F4 and / or CF patients and patients with chronic renal failure on dialysis.
This is the second HCV test campaign run by Equity and Health. If previous campaign campaigns were focused primarily on large urban agglomerations, the current campaign is aimed primarily at the population in small towns, municipalities and villages, thus providing equal opportunities for access to innovative treatments.
At the beginning of the testing campaign organized in Bacau, the health system officials worked together with professionals and family doctors.
"Since September 1, a new contract has been concluded on the result of costs and scope, which includes, in addition to the 11 existing university centers, the Pitesti and Bacau centers, which is in support of our insured, CJAS Bacau, who will not address treatment in Iasi, Galaţi or Bucharest. This treaty also now deals with patients who have F1 fibrosis, and therefore the degree of fibrosis as a criterion for patient eligibility ", said ec. Ion-Marius Savin, President of the Director General of the Bacau County Health Center
Given the fact that there is no Hepatitis C Center in Neamţ County, patients who will be positively identified in a campaign in the region will receive treatment for specialists in gastroenterology or communicable diseases in specialized centers provided for in contracts concluded CNAS.
"There are three public hospitals in the CJAS Neamţ where patients with a specialist in gastroenterology and communicable diseases can be monitored: in Piatra Neamţ, Târgu Neamţ and Romano. In accordance with the applicable legislation, we ensure the costs of examining patients diagnosed with hepatitis C and the further costs needed for therapy, "said Elena Harpa, president of the CJAS Neamt, at the start of a test campaign in Neamt district.
"There are many patients with hepatitis C and we are afraid that we will not find them all. It is therefore very important that we help them identify them, and even if we prepare a waiting list by the end of the year, they will be treated next," explained Dr. Anca Trifan, President of the Romanian Society for Gastroenterology and Hepatology, during an event in Piatra Neamt.
In the first test campaign, between 16 January 2017 and 28 February 2018, 16,964 patients were tested in the 7 largest hospitals in Bucharest and the country. Results were evaluated by gender and age groups (18-49 / 50-60 / 60+), taking into account the confidentiality of health data. The campaign showed that 6% (1013 persons) of the tested patients were infected with hepatitis C virus. The largest proportion of those who found that they were tested was in the 60+ age group.
"We need you, your family doctors who know your patients best when they come to us with gastroenterology, they already have a certificate of what chronic diseases they have, what other medicines they are taking, just to test interactions," added Luminiţa Popovici, Head of the Department of Gastroenterology, District Emergency Hospital, Bacau.
The test action "Hepatitis C Cure" is carried out by AES with the support of ABBVIE.
