Foreign Minister Winston Peters announced today
appointment of Nigel Fyfe as ambassador to Spain.

Fyfe was until recently Deputy Secretary General
Negotiator, Office for Settlement of the Contract with the Ministry of
Justice. Before that, he was employed by the Ministry of the
Foreign Affairs and Trade as Trade Director
Department for Negotiations, Director Legal Affairs and
Ambassador to Chile, Peru and Colombia.
"New
Zealand has a strong relationship with Spain, "said Mr
Peters. "We are close economic partners, with growth
the number of New Zealand companies in Spain, in particular in the EU
health, IT, maritime and agriculture sectors.
"Spain has supported a lot in New Zealand
implementing the free trade agreement with the EU, focusing on this
promoting gender equality, giving priority to climate change, and a
progressive trade agenda.
As ambassador to Spain, Mr
Fyfe will also be responsible for diplomatic relations with
Andorra, Holy See, Morocco and Malta.
