On Friday, October 26, in the center of Royal Warmblood Studbook Netherlands (KWPN) in Ermel, the variant EHV-1 rhinopneumonievisus determined one of the stallions from the autumn performance test. A stallion with fever and a stallion that showed a different form of motion in a step, these two stallions were tested negative on EHV-1 in a study carried out by the animal health service. The three stallions were re-tested on November 6 and the results of the EHV-1 test were negative for all 3 stallions. No other stallions with EHV-1 symptoms were added.
In consultation with prof. Marianne Sloet, a specialist in internal horse sickness at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Utrecht, was determined to re-test the performance of the stallion present. If the stallions concerned are collected by the owners, it is recommended that these horses be quarantined for at least 14 days. In principle, the remaining stallions remain in Ermel until November 24, and then 4 weeks after the last case of heat.
The KWPN Center – and thus the evaluation days and final presentation – is re-opened for owners and interested parties. They have access to the KWPN office and the Willem-Alexanderhalal stand. The stables remain closed to third parties until the final presentation. All permanent workers and cyclists will continue to work according to a strict hygienic protocol to the next, using disinfectant carpets and clothing, inter alia. The removal of the KWPN fertilizer takes place in its own place.
