Thirty-one pro-Israel student organizations sent a letter to UCLA Chancellor Gene Block and the UC Board of Regents on November 8 urged UCLA to cancel the upcoming National Students for Justice in Palestine (NSJP) on November 16 and 18.
The letter states that the SJP violates the "Community Principles of the Community" standards of the UCLA which prohibit "acts of discrimination, harassment, profiling or other conduct that cause individuals damage based on the expression of race, color, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, religious beliefs, political preferences, sexual orientation, gender identity, nationality or national origin, among other personal characteristics. "
"In the past month, UCLA was the scene of violence in the SJP: students from the Jewish, Kurdish and Armenian countries were physically and verbally abused for exchanging their positions in the campus," the letter reads. "In July, a SJP activist at Stanford set national headlines to call for violence against pro-Israelis, while last year the SJP was suspended for two years at the University of California, Irvine, for group attacks on students."
The letter stated that the majority of hate crimes are directed against the Jews and that college campuses have more anti-Semitic incidents when there is a stronger presence in the campus against the Zionists.
"The antisemitism of one man, Robert Bowers, led him to the murder of 11 Americans in the Pittsburgh synagogue just because they were Jews," the letter says. "It is imperative that the UCLA takes seriously the anti-Semitic rhetoric of the SJP members."

Among the groups that signed the letter were students supporting the chapters from Israel to UCLA, Columbia and the Santa Monica College, the Tikveah UC Berkeley and the Swarthmore students for Israel.
The Los Angeles City Council also called on UCLA to cancel the SJP conference.
