REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Many students of Gadjah Mada, who were part of the #KitaAGNI movement, were held on Thursday at the UGM political and political party, demanding the end of a case of sexual harassment against one of its colleagues, who in 2017 performed KKN.
In the campaign entitled "UGM Emergency Sexual Violence", participants of the campaign signed a bulletin board containing a number of requirements regarding the case of sexual abuse.
"The aggressive movement today became a movement called UGM Emergency Sexual Violence, in which cases of sexual harassment and violence at UGM were not only once," said Cornelia Natasya, a spokeswoman for the #KitaAGNI movement on the margins of the campaign.
According to Natasya, in addition to students, the #KitaAGNI movement was also supported by alumni, staff and UGM lecturers. The "Agni" itself is a pseudonym used by the UGM Student Press Agency to refer to women victims of sexual harassment with contributions imposed on November 5, 2018.
As Natasy said, in addition to providing many requests, there was also an activity that provided support to victims of abuse and sexual violence in gaining the right. "This movement is the beginning, Agni is not only one, Agni is still a lot, and many are not solved in cases of UGM violence, sex survivors will return to their feet and fight Agni," he said.
In the action, #KitaAGNI 9 requests for UGM, namely:
1. Provide a public statement confirming that acts of harassment and sexual violence in any form, in particular rape, are serious misconduct.
2. The removal of academics from the University of Gadjah Mada, who are perpetrators of sexual harassment and violence.
3. Making a strong warning and even sanctions for the academic community of Gadjah Mada University, which has anchored the survivors of sexual abuse and violence.
4. To fulfill the rights of survivors to sexual harassment and violence, including the right to obtain up-to-date and transparent information on the case-handling procedure and psychosocial assistance, health services, legal aid and material damages.
5. Providing a safe space for survivors of sexual harassment and violence reporting the violence they are experiencing.
6. Establish and ensure the fulfillment of perspectives and privacy of survivors and the principle of transparency and accountability in all forms of reporting on cases of sexual harassment and violence at Gadjah Mada University.
7. Review and revise governance and regulations at the level of the department, faculty and universities that still provide opportunities for sexual harassment and violence.
8. Design and enforce binding regulations at the department, faculties and universities on the prevention, treatment and prosecution of cases of harassment and sexual violence involving the academic community of Gadjah Mada University.
9. Conduct education against violence and sexual violence, which, together with survivors, cooperated with the successful training of pupils for new pupils (PPSMB) and in the teaching of power-enhancing learning (KKN-PPM) at the department, faculty and university level.
The Dean of the UGM Faculty of Social Sciences, Erwan Agus Purwanto, appreciated the support of the #KitaAGNI movement to complete the sexual harassment case that was experienced by one of the students at the faculty. According to Erwan, the UGM Faculty of Politics and Politics since the end of 2017 actually sent a letter to the UGM leadership to take immediate steps to address the case of sexual harassment.
He considered that, although the UGM set up an investigative team for the case, the university leadership did not fully implement the recommendations presented by the team.
"The university has a rector's decree on students' behavior, so we are calling for a chancellor's decision because it was recommended by the investigative team," he said.
He also thanked the UGM Student Press Agency with a report published on November 5 to inform the public about the case.
"We are maintaining together that the leading position of this item will be solved immediately and as honest as possible," he said.
Dean of the Faculty of Technology at the University of Gadja Mada prof. Nizam confirmed that one of his students suspected of rape was sanctioned and that he could not graduate this year.
"The convicts, who were supposed to be able to graduate in August last year, could not graduate because they have to lead university leaders on the basis of the recommendations of an independent team, they still have to comply with sanctions decisions," Nizam said.
Previously, a UGM student, allegedly a victim of sexual harassment, worked with her colleague KKN who was a student at the Faculty of Engineering in 2014. The incident occurred when the student participated in the program of the Community service on the island of Seram, Maluku mid-2017.
