Netflix ceases to operate on the Nintendo Wii starting in January 2019

Sorry, Nintendo Wii users: the Wii Sports console is losing Netflix in January 2019.

More specifically, from 30 January, everything online services for the Nintendo Wii will be a sunset. There is no longer a Wii Shop Channel and Virtual Console to buy games and more video streaming services – including Netflix.

The service lasted just over eight years on the Nintendo Wii when it first came in 2010. It quickly became a hit on the Wii – a measure of the strong popularity of the console at a time when services such as Netflix have evolved into video streaming giants.

With over 100 million Nintendo Wii consoles sold since 2016, Wii is the Nintendo's best-selling home gaming console of all time. That's just what the Game Boy and Nintendo DS have – handheld consoles that cost less than the Wii.

Nintendo DS is the best-selling Nintendo console ever with a pretty large margin.

For now, Netflix will continue to operate on the Nintendo Wii. But do not worry too much about his closing closure. In 2018, Netflix works on almost everything – from a smartphone to a TV to Google's very cheap Chromecast dongle.

Here's a complete list from Netflix to get started.
