Immigration and refugee are not national problems. These are European and international problems, require solutions at European and international level, and a new approach that addresses the challenges of today's reality.
This was emphasized by the President of the Central Senate Chamber of Greece Konstantinos Michalos in his speech at the General Assembly of the Central Union of Chambers of Greece, which took place on Friday, November 9 and 10 in Chios, at the request of the Chairman of the Business Council Chios Pantelis Legatou on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Chamber.
In particular, according to the Senate's announcement, Konstantinos Michalos in his speech mentioned the prospects of companies after the country's exit from memoranda and immigration policies.
In particular, according to the Athens Agency, Mihalos stressed: "We know that immigration and refugees are not national problems. They are European and international problems.
They need solutions at European and international level. They demand a new approach that will respond to the challenges of today's reality.
No solution is easy, for such a complex and multifaceted issue. But there are basic principles that must be a political compass.
– The principle of solidarity between Member States in the field of asylum and asylum immigration.
– Enhanced cooperation with third countries of origin and transit of migrants.
– Respect for the fundamental rights and dignity of refugees and immigrants as a key criterion for every policy being implemented.
In addition, the views of the Chamber of Commerce are clear:
- In principle, we unite our voices with the local communities of the islands and call for the removal of geographical restrictions, the transfer of immigrants to the mainland and the return of illegal people to Turkey, as set out in the agreement.
- We call for concrete measures to support local economies and affected companies.
- We also call for the completion of the revision of the Dublin Treaty in order to ensure a fairer and more sustainable system for the allocation of asylum seekers.
But the most urgent is the adoption of a coherent, common approach for the European Union. A step-by-step approach to individual strategies and ventures that undermine the foundations of European construction.
Europe must do what it did not do with the debt crisis. Work with a common vision, coherence, determination. If not, the spectrum of issues, isolation, even nationalism will become even more visible.
Effective treatment of refugee and migration issues is a matter of survival. For local communities, businesses and citizens of the eastern Aegean. For Greece. For people looking for a second home. But also for the European Union. "
