Bavaria tightened corona measures: exit restrictions and switching lessons

In view of the high level of new corona infections, Bavaria wants to tighten the measures of Wednesday. This was stated by Prime Minister Soder. Among other things, the stricter contact restrictions are then valid. There are changes for students in higher grades.

New infections with the corona virus in Germany stagnate at a high level – and relaxation is not in sight. As development progresses, more and more voices are calling for stricter measures; Among them – once again – Bavaria’s Prime Minister Marcus Soder.

After a special meeting of his cabinet, the CSU chief announced that his government wants to cut the measures by early January. Because of this, the disaster will be declared again. There should be a general exit restriction for whole Bavaria – people should just leave their homes for good reason – for work or shopping. Between hotspots with an incidence of 200 or more, there is a past between 21:00 and 05:00. In addition, a maximum of five people should be allowed to meet. There should be an exception at Christmas, but not on New Year’s Eve.

Less face-to-face learning, more control in nursing

Regarding the schools, Söder said there was a “stronger contact”, especially in the upper classes. Therefore, all vocational schools should finish classroom teaching by Wednesday. From the eighth grade onwards, alternating lessons should take place everywhere. Shops should remain open, but the distance requirement should be more controlled. The borders with neighboring European countries should remain open, but a negative corona test should be presented when entering, especially for private purposes.

Söder found the situation in the nursing homes particularly dramatic. Therefore, in the future, visitors should be allowed to enter nursing homes with a negative test and an FFP2 mask. Employees should be tested twice per week. There should also be an FFP2 mask requirement for visitors to hospitals.

So that the partially overloaded health authorities can continue them, they should be supported by the police, among others. Employers are called to “give home office” wherever possible. The state parliament should vote on the stricter measures on Tuesday, Söder said.

“Hope is good, action is better”

“Unfortunately, the situation is serious,” Soder said, justifying the cabinet’s decision. The results of the last few weeks are very mixed, although the mild lockdown returns development. But this is not enough. At best, we move sideways, otherwise the sound system may be overloaded. In some regions, this is already the case. The high number of fatalities is morally unjustified, so Soder. Now is the right time to act consistently. “Better to be shorter and clearer, but with perspective,” Soder said. “Corona just will not give up – but we will not.” And he added, “Hope is good, action is better”.

Infections remain high

The number of coronavirus infections in Germany is stagnating at a high level. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), health authorities reported Sunday 17,767 new corona infections in 24 hours. The number of recorded cases is usually lower on Sundays, partly because fewer tests are performed on the weekend. A week ago, the value was 14,611 new infections reported in one day.

In addition, 255 additional deaths in connection with a corona infection were reported. This brings the number to 18,772 deaths since the pandemic began. According to the RKI, a total of 1,171,322 people have been proven infected with the virus.

According to the RKI management report on Saturday, the so-called seven-day R-value was 1.10. This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 110 more people. The previous day the value was 1.04. The value represents the occurrence of the infection for 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.
