Today, over 40 senior officials are arrested in Addis Ababa's capital (and, in most cases, they are called military generals) and security personnel responsible for METEC (metal and engineering corporations), the largest government corporation for military industrial complexes, reports Ethiopian Reporter.
The reporter, who quoted anonymous sources, added that METEC's top officials and intelligence officers were arrested when they met in the building of the company listed as Amoraw, near the Imperial Hotel in Gerju.
The reason that officials are arrested is not known, lists of officials who were arrested are not disclosed so far.
However, they are known to be detained in the Addis Ababa Police Commission, where the former Somali regional president was arrested.
In a Wazema Radio report this week, he said that the government is conducting a very secret investigation of corruption scandals, as the reorganization of the corporation is in progress.
The news of the arrest came days after Abiy Ahmed, in a meeting with members of the community, presented Abdi Ahmed that his administration had undergone an important reform of the military in terms of the formation of leadership in the command structure, which was dominated by ethnic tigers. In a report that was published yesterday, Ethiopian Satellite Television (ESAT) said what it called "sources close to the Prime Minister" to report that more than 160 military generals were interrupted.
METEC has investments in many sectors in the economy, but it has been more active in the construction and mechanical engineering sector. However, the company is often accused of poor project completion and large corruption.
Brigadier General Kinfe Dagnaw (shown above), who led the corporation as director until he stepped down in April 2018 after Prime Minister Abye Ahmed was elected president of the ruling party, recently appeared in the media that advocated METEC, seems defective and incompetent.
