Ethiopia: Police begin to take over several Taxi Code providers 3

The police have begun to provide vehicles with code 3 that offer taxi services starting last week. The measure came shortly after the decision of the city traffic authority to ban the use of vehicles marked 3 for public transport services.

"Several vehicles with a mark of 3 are under custody without tangible evidence," said Samrawit Fikru, cofounder and general manager of Hybrid Design, owner of Ride Taxi, which operates with 900 codes.

The City Administration adopted a measure stating that taxi companies are providing public transport services without proper permits. Since then, the police have begun to pull more than 3 cars with the Ride sticker and keep them on track.

"My car was taken by the police, and I had to pay 300 Br the next day as money," said one of the hackers, Naod Dechasa.

The authorities accuse Ride taxi companies of fixing prices and destinations.

"The development of public transport is the mandate of our administration," said Dawit Fortune. "Engaging in such activity is illegal."
