DDoS attacks have dropped, Serbian criminals are focusing on more profitable ones

However, security experts warn that despite DDoS attacks DDoS can still cause major traffic disturbances, even if their developers are not primarily focused on financial gain.

"In the third quarter, attackers were most active in August and September, as evidenced by the numerous attacks on educational institutions that have been steadily increasing since the beginning of the study period. The most striking attacks in the period considered have reached the website of one of the most prestigious universities in the United Kingdom – the University of Edinburgh, and was also an American Web Services Provider for parents of children attending private schools in many US cities – Infinite Campus, "said Alexey Kiselev, a member of the DDoS Protection Group at the Kaspersky Lab.

DDoS attacks were recorded in 82 countries between July and September of this year. Most of the attacks took place in China, followed by the USA and Australia in an inadequate ranking. This was the first time in DDoS attacks that ranged high.

"The main driving force behind any cybercrime activity is profits, but this is not only a financial one. An example of this is the DDoS attacks on universities, schools and other educational institutions that are most likely to stand independent students who want to make their work more difficult for their lawyers or simply delayed the test, "said Kiselev.

It is also important that these attacks are not carried out with the help of botnets, which usually have professional cybercriminals. "It seems that you are now more focused on unlawfully cryptography and occasional profitable attacks. The initiative shown by pupils and pupils could be held in certain circumstances if it did not cause real harm to the affected organizations. It is therefore clear that even educational institutions are more interested in cyber security and are preparing for similar attacks, "concluded a security expert.

User delegation

For similar attacks, unintentional computer pirates also help some users who do not even take care of securing their devices. It should be noted that not only smart phones and classic computers are spoken, but also for example the so-called Internet Devices (IoT), for example, various cameras that can connect to the Internet.

These devices have become part of a huge botnet that has been used by cybercriminals to attack Dyn DNS servers. By default, they take web addresses into physical addresses of physical devices (IP addresses). That's why hackers have disabled several major sites from the east coast of the US – because the compiler (DNS servers) did not work, web browsers did not know where to connect.

Users could not connect to Twitter, Facebook, Daily News, CNN and the New York Times, and Spotify and Soundcloud music portals. [celá zpráva]

Focus on safety

Attacks by end users are often used by computer piracy with various viruses to remotely control the attacked station. He then allocates it to a giant botnet, and if they are large enough, they can virtually remove any destination on the Internet.

In order to prevent DDoS attacks, first of all, the users themselves, when they give enough emphasis on the safety of their devices.
