After obtaining the double lung transplant he needs, he developed cancer. The lungs that this French patient received was from a smoker. According to one study, the patient was treated with cystic fibrosis since childhood.

After a major deterioration in their respiratory functions, which are characteristic of this disease, doctors in November 2015 decided to transplant lungs.

"The transplanted lungs belonged to a 57-year-old woman who smoked cigarettes every 30 days for 30 years," said doctors at Montpellier's Montpellier Hospital.

The study shows that tests performed at the time of the death of the donor did not reveal any types of anomalies. In June 2017, the patient was admitted to the thoracic oncology unit of the hospital. After two months, he died of lung cancer, without attempting to heal.
