National President MDBSenator Romero Jucá (RR), said on Wednesday that the party wants to retain the presidency of the Senate, which is now occupied by Eunice Oliveira (MDB-CE), who was not re-elected this year. Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL) is one of the arguments challenging the release, but in an interview with Look this week, he said he did not intend to re-run for the post. On Twitter, Jucá, who also lost his re-election this year, said that he will be named after mid-January.
"MDB will be the biggest bench of the Senate, and we will endeavor to make the next Speaker of Parliament. We will not close anyone," wrote Jucá from Twitter. "The party will not have a name definition for the presidency of the Senate until mid-January, but we want to keep the presidency of the Senate, but this will still be defined. That's not right now," he added.
In addition, the senator stated that MDB does not speak with the new government and does not want to speak with newly elected President Jair Bolsonaro. On Tuesday, Renan Calheiros avoided the act of whether or not it would be in opposition, Bolsonaro urged him to be involved in economic issues in the new government.
"The party does not speak with the new government, it will not talk to the new government of accusations. MDB will strive for democracy, for individual and collective freedoms," concluded Jucá.
