Rejecting ecology at the cost of the facts

The poor results of the MR files in the joint election on 14 October caused a double appeal between elected officials and sympathizers of that party.

Some wanted to put more social liberalism in the saddle, while others advocated a greener liberalism. This second call is not for everyone's taste, judging by the carte blanche "But is radical ecology the future of MR?published by Drieu Godefridi on 19 October at L & # 39; Echo. This speaker is known for his defense of the liberal pure jus, his climate-skeptical standpoints, the defense of nuclear energy and his criticism of the IPCC.

Liberalism and ecology

Does the defense of liberalism demand the suppression of the demand for the ecological position of the MR? Certainly not from a theoretical point of view. In contrast to liberalism and the number of environmental policies, there is in fact no contradiction.

The most obvious example is the introduction of a carbon tax that would give rise to greater accountability for carbon monoxide. In the jargon of economists, pollution is a source of negative external factors that could be internalized by such a tax. This tax, which is not contrary to liberalism, would contribute to the effectiveness of the economic market system.

Liberalism does not mean placing on the dictates of a smart traders' corporation before a change that requires the maintenance of parking spaces at this or that place.

Liberalism does not prohibit any public intervention or tax. And to return to the field of communal skills, it can be very well liberal and welcomes private initiative, while it concludes that the public space remains too good – actually too ugly – cars.

Liberalism does not mean placing on the dictates of a smart traders' corporation before a change that requires the maintenance of parking spaces at this or that place.

Pro-truths

The protection of liberalism requires even less misleading mistakes. We must not have the same notion of what is left and the ecology, that we see Mrs. Marghem, as the author says, among the examples of "Proxies MR on the left and ecologists argued".

If the environmental performance of the North European countries is much better than ours, it is likely that the right and center parties have more ecological positioning.

In addition, the strong fact that MR referred to the closure of nuclear power plants in 2025 also confirms that "of all true and central clients in Europe, MR is the most advanced in ecology issuesThis is another surprising claim: although the environmental performance of the countries of Northern Europe is much better than ours, it is likely that the right and center parties have a sharp eco-positioning. Is not this a right-wing chancellor who brought Germany out of nuclear power?

Nuclear argument

The columnist is a solid advocate of the extension of nuclear power plants to provide low-cost electricity. It is difficult to see coherence between these arguments and the fact that in Belgium, a country that is still well-founded, "electricity is already the most expensive in Europe".

This is also incorrect. On the basis of the latest information published by Eurostat, the price of electricity for residential use in Germany and Denmark is higher, by the way, by countries whose economy is relatively good.

For non-residential use, the truth is farther away, since the price in Belgium is lower than the EU average and the euro area average.

In the strange inversion of logic, Godefridi concludes his paragraph for the extension of nuclear power plants that provoke the risk of this winter being "black" electric. This is ignored by the fact that this risk arises from "inaccessibility" in terms of nuclear power plants.

We understand the strategy at the workplace: to reject the idea that the MR would adopt a more ecological program, Mr. Godefridi refers to "Extreme ecological positioning MRThat would be a smile if the challenges of climate change and biodiversity were not so dramatic.
