Two brands of dry dog dogs were warned about higher amounts of vitamin D, according to U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Cancellations were issued on November 2 and include Nutrisca Chicken and Chickpea of dry chicken foods and natural chicken and food of potato dried dog.
Nutrisca and Natural Life voluntarily recalled their products. Businesses say they have received three complaints from pet owners about vitamin D toxicity after their dogs eat food. They have been investigated and found that the wrong formulation resulted in elevated vitamin D levels.
The FDA says dogs who consume high amounts of vitamin D may exhibit symptoms such as vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive blindness, and weight loss. Toxicity to vitamin D can cause serious health problems in dogs, including renal dysfunction.
Natural Life bags, which are affected by recalls, are best placed by the date code from 29 May 2020 to 10 August 2020.
Nutrisc bags that are affected are best in the date code from 25 February 2020 to 13 September 2020.
Consumers should return full refund products or contact Nutrisco or Natural Life at 888-279-9420 for further questions.
