Oluwatobi Bakre is one of the most talked about former housemates in the Big Brother Naija Reality TV show in 2018, also known as Double Wahala. The photographer and former banker Tobi defended conversations and controversy surrounding the three-month realistic performance that took place in South Africa. Even after leaving BBNaija, Tobi remained a topic, which was often discussed by spectators and fans. In this interview, a graduate university university in Lagos, now living in the film industry, tells Newton-Ray Ukwuomi about his new life, passion and endeavors. Extracts:
How did you leave Big Brother Nai's house since?
Since coming to Big Brother (Naia), leaving Big Brother House and looking at the things I have achieved so far, I can only say that this was a nice year for me. It was amazing.
Was banking boring after four years?
For me, it was very interesting that I was sometimes a currency trader. I was trading currencies with insurance companies. I also worked on the money market. It was interesting for me, but banking life is generally a little routine. And I wanted to do a lot more so that I did not research. I love photography. I also wanted to be a media person. I'm not really an official person. Generally, this is a routine life, every day is the same, but the life I have now is different to the rest of the world. I feel better. It seems like living to live the kind of life I have now.
Big Brother Naiya has received over a million applications / auditions for the last show that you came across Housemate, what if you did not choose and no one knows Tobi what would you do?
Before that, people knew Tobi Bakra, but they were not on this scale. It's a lot more international now, but I was still working fine in my zone. if the opportunity did not come to Big Brother, I probably changed jobs or was on my same job, but I'm still just trying out other opportunities. And I did a photo that I found very interesting.
Do you do anything about your photo?
Yes, I am exhibiting at the end of the year, a photographic art exhibition.
Are you in the DSTV campaign, how did you join?
I am in the DSTV campaign, translates versatility, that's what my brand is focused around, the ability to be something, more than one thing. This is true that pushes the campaign. You can be different things, depending on what you want to be. You do not have to limit yourself to one thing.
We saw you in some movies. Is it one of BBN's privileges or passions?
When I worked in the bank, I always wanted to do something more versatile, I wanted to be in the media, but then I did not have the patience or I said that I could not leave the banking hall to start auditioning and all that I needed a platform for the things I wanted to do. Now many people can see what I can do and get me employed.
Do you think you need professional training or is it natural for you?
Eventually, I will still go to school to practice just to cross my T and give something that I have, but it's generally that acting for some people is of course and in some way works for me. But I know that I still have to delete. It's interesting for me.
What were you interested in playing?
I always wanted to act. There were multiple platforms. Now everyone notices that I could do it when I was at the fair. That's why I have a role. It's just to do more and show people the extent of my passion.
How was your first time?
It was very weird. Well, then it's the first time that's the case. When I got there, I thought, "So, now you're trying to be someone you are not?" But that's what's happening. Yes, it was pretty interesting in an interesting way. And it was a challenge. And see that growth has really motivated me so far, because I remember for the first time when I had to be a week and two after I saw the improvements I was delighted with.
Did you have the people you admired before joining the film industry?
Yeah. Kunle Afolayan, Ramsey Nouah, AY, Genevieve, Rita Dominic … because they did it back. And now that I am in the industry, I know it's hard to criticize when you are outside, but when you are in it, you will respect these actors. I respect young players who work every day.
Who are the ones you want to work with?
All veterans, because older people have more to learn when it comes to playing. I was on the line at Sola Sobowale. From the first day I already had a lot of things she told me. When you work with such people, you become a better player faster.
Want to work with Genevieve Nnay?
Yeah. It's going to be fine with Genevieve. That's what I said. I would like to say again that a dream could come about. From mouth to God's ears: I would like to work in one of the productions of Genevieve Nnaji.
Did you say something about not wanting to wait for auditions, or does sounding like a denial?
Do not ignore it. What I think is that the big brother gave me a platform to show people what I can do. Obviously you can not leave four years in banking and what to start from the beginning. You must know exactly what you want to do. I used the platform and gave me a platform on Big Brother. Many people know what I can do before.
What do you like the most?
The fact that you have the power to be something. If you have a script, whether you like it or not, you need to take action. Every application that is given to you must be a challenge because you have to do it well. When they say it's a fool, I can do it.
What role can you accept?
For me, when it comes to playing, you have to be versatile, you can not limit yourself, unless it is to a large extent the propagation of immorality that I will not take.
The role of the sexual scene?
In Hollywood, that would mean, not in Nollywood.
What distinguishes you from other players?
Always Toby is a vibe from some of the roles I played. So, if you want Toby's boyfriend, he's different from Pastor Toby. In every role I play, I breathe a bit of my personality into it. which makes me different.
We're talking about Tobi's boyfriend, what is your relationship with Ceece at this time?
Who is Toby, whom we do not know?
He saw him pretty much in Big Brother. It was not part of me that I kept back. Many people know me personally because they see me for three months on TV. I did not hide anything.
What can you cry?
Hunger. If I'm hungry.
