Cape Town – A senior state prosecutor involved in the rape and human trafficking case of controversial pastor Timothy Omotoso has died.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Eastern Cape confirmed that lawyer Zucile Mdolomba left on Saturday.

Medolomba was one of the three prosecutors in the case against Omotoso.

Omotoso’s bail application was recently dismissed in the Port Elizabeth High Court.

The court found that the defense did not present any exceptional circumstances to justify giving him bail.

NPA spokesperson Anelisa Ngcakani said: “While Advocate Mdolomba played an important role in the case, especially the successful opposition of Omotoso’s recent application for bail, the two remaining prosecutors are just capable of successfully prosecuting the case.
